Who we are

Arabia Fact Check is a fact-checking platform dedicated to claims about Saudi Arabia. We are independent journalists. Self-funded. Non-profit. We follow what is being said about the Kingdom on social media, video platforms and in news media around the world, select the claims that are spreading most widely or could cause the most harm, and check them against the evidence.

We publish clear, sourced verdicts that anyone can read, share and cite. Every claim about Saudi Arabia is judged by the same standards.

Vision and mission

Our vision. Readers everywhere, in their own language, have access to accurate and well-sourced information about Saudi Arabia.

Our mission. To check widely shared claims about Saudi Arabia, judged by the same standards, and to publish clear verdicts with their evidence in more than 20 languages.

Our goals

  1. Speed with accuracy. Check viral claims while they are still spreading, without ever trading accuracy for speed.
  2. Reach readers in their own language. Publish each fact check in the languages in which the claim is circulating.
  3. Show the evidence. Give readers the sources so they can check our work for themselves.
  4. Track how claims travel. Follow each claim across languages and platforms, and record it in our myth tracker.
  5. Make it easy to ask. Let anyone send us a claim to check, through a direct message on X or by email.
  6. Meet international standards. Work by the principles of the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN).

How we work

1. Monitoring

We monitor public content in more than 30 languages: posts on social platforms, videos, news reports and statements by public figures and institutions. We track recurring claims in a single database, so that when a claim returns in a new language or a new form, we recognise it.

2. Selecting claims

We select claims by reach (how widely a claim is circulating, in how many languages and on which accounts) and potential harm (whether it could affect people's safety, health, rights, livelihoods or travel, or how communities are treated). Who made a claim is not a selection criterion.

3. Research and verification

4. Writing and wording

5. Translation

We publish in more than 20 languages. Every language version carries the same verdict and the same sources. Our goal is for every translation to be reviewed by a native speaker of that language.

6. Review and publishing

Every fact check is reviewed before publication. Software and AI tools assist with monitoring, translation and search, but they do not decide verdicts: a human editor checks every fact, source and translation and approves every fact check before it is published.

7. Corrections

If we make a mistake, we correct it openly and record the correction with its date. Anyone can ask us to review a fact check. Read our Corrections policy.

Our methodology in brief

Each fact check carries one verdict. The verdict applies to the claim as it circulated, not to the person or outlet that made it. The same evidence threshold applies to every claim.

Our Editorial Charter

  1. Accuracy. Accuracy comes before speed. We publish only what the evidence supports.
  2. Every number has a source. Every figure we publish is given with its source, and estimates are clearly labelled as estimates.
  3. Independence. We are independent of any state, government body or political party. No outside party decides what we check or what verdict we reach.
  4. Transparency of sources. We show the sources for every fact check, so readers can verify our work.
  5. Fairness. Every claim is judged by the same standards.
  6. Public content only. We work only with publicly available content. We do not track individuals and we do not collect private data.
  7. Correcting our own mistakes. When we get something wrong, we correct it openly and say what changed.
  8. Respect for religious sanctities. We treat religious sanctities with respect, including the sanctity of Mecca, Medina and the Two Holy Mosques.
  9. No hate, no insults. We do not publish hate speech or insults against anyone, and we do not accuse people of lying.
  10. Protecting ordinary users. We blur the names and pictures of ordinary users in the screenshots we publish, and we do not single out private individuals.
  11. International principles. We work by the IFCN Code of Principles: non-partisanship and fairness, transparency of sources, of funding and organization, and of methodology, and an open and honest corrections policy.
